Children’s playground and restaurant hybrid opens in China

Work & Lifestyle

A new restaurant in Shanghai creates a fun environment for the whole family.

Shopping malls and retailers are continuously trying to cater to the needs of families by adding entertainment for children to their offerings. In an effort to meet the needs of parents and children in Shanghai, X+Living, an architecture firm based in China thoughtfully designed an indoor amusement park that provides fun for all the family. Coined Neobio, the park offers a family-friendly dining space and plenty of features to keep children occupied, including a reading area with a forest theme to make children more relaxed and close to nature.

Beneath giant ‘balloons’ are different spaces where children can enjoy themselves, with a bubble pool, sand pit and toy area among its offerings. Li Xiang, architect and designer of Neobio, includes perspex walk-ways to link each of the pools together, allowing for the dining adults to keep an eye on their kids while still being able to entertain themselves. Slides, ladders and tunnels cover the restaurant, which boasts a pastel-themed décor that appeals both to infants and current interior trends.

Ensuring a location is child-friendly is important to parents when planning family activites, with websites that allow parents to rate places based on their child-friendly features and an app sharing the locations of such places, provide to be useful tools.
